Thomas  is an international crisis leader, mediator, and mentor. Over the past two decades, he worked in over 30 countries with some of the most complex and dynamic crises and conflicts of our time (incl. South Africa, Afghanistan, Syria, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Papua New Guinea). He is CEO & Co-Creator of The Crisis Compass, where he works with human-centered crisis management using a toolbox of innovative methods. 

 

Thomas is also an Experiential Facilitator and Game and Tool Designer at Groundwork, TedX speaker, Author of “Navigating Beyond Crisis” and Podcast Co-Host of “Reinventors”, guest lecturer at Handelshøyskolen BI. 

 

Prior to founding The Crisis Compass and Groundwork, Thomas led large conflict resolution and disaster management teams around the world for organizations such as World Food Programme and Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement. He holds an Executive Master of Management from BI Norwegian Business School and a Master's degree in Peace and Conflict Studies. 

 

Thomas is tirelessly exploring new perspectives and uncovering hidden assumptions that influence our behavior. He continuously advocates finding new ways to learn and loves doing things differently. His approach is heavily shaped by the work and time he spent with indigenous peoples worldwide. 

 

Thomas is a sought-out speaker and regular contributor through his writing and is a strong advocate for constant learning. He enjoys most being taught by his two children or his two greatest teachers as he refers to them.
